So tired....

Ok so this was the last shot from working at the studio last night. I HATE it so far. I don't like the colors too much or the way it was applied. I was using charcoal brushes in corel painter but maybe i'll try just gouache or photoshop paint bucket stuff. Whatever...

Also working on two still lives, anatomy homework, pinups for rough sketch, illustrations for my large scale projection class, and oh yea... a CHILDREN'S BOOK ILLUSTRATION JOB!!!! I was at my internship yesterday and I got offered a gig to do 10 spot illustreations for one of Steve's lifelong clients. Read the script, I like. Already started pencil sketches so that is now what I am doing on the train rides and probably lunch breaks. No details on this one guys... sorry :(

first study... DONE!!!!

So this is the first study for the ballerina painting, and i must say... what a bitch (the the girl the drawing). I drew her face 5 times! But thats all part of the process. Honestly, its due to three reason. 1. Her face is turned slightly to the left so it is barely straight on or 3/4 and that subtle turn and her subtle expression was hard to capture, 2. her the camera distortion, and 3. we as artists all have tendencies to draw things a certain way. Mine is that I always elongate figures because im a tall skinny guy. Anyways, to finally combat this, I used a grid. Yet I still hate it because I feel like its off.

Been awhile since I posted a sketch

So I entered this dreamscape contest and I'm not sure if I'll make the deadline now, but I have done a sketch of this Robot. This contest was kicking my ass because they as for a surreal thing BUT I am a more literal person. Here lies the problem... or does it? I love scifi etc but its hard for me to imagine things outside of the scope of traditional perspective, etc. I did numerous sketches and nothing was cutting it. But two things reinvigorated me. 1. Jon Foster visited our school! His paintings and his talks of self discovery were both enlightening and inspiring. 2. Reflections. I love mirrors and playing with them in order to distort perspective. Its not really distorting... but cheating. I don't need o do these crazy anti-perspective compositions, it's too much fun trying to be witty and think outside of the box from inside the box. Thats the way I've always been. The more you restrict me the more ideas I'll have.

Next time on "Pagdon's Blog".... roughs and color sketches!! Tune in next time

Full Moon

I did this one two days ago for my large scale project class and also for me. But now after this I think I'm going to head into that tank girl tribute direction. Its not going to be their version, its going to be mine. Anyway, sorry I havent updated in awhile. Most of my time was refining the big bad wolf and wicked wtch pieces. Which BTW...

Finished!

more of the crane

So this is more of the crane. I worked on it all day yesterday at rough sketch. Thanks to Steve, I have rethought and altered the perspective. He showed me hot to conquer the perspective on the god forsaken blade on the right side. It was a good experience learning how to align it right. More details to come.

In addition this is my wolf piece. I have added color to this and I'm trying a different process with this one.
